Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in Galactic Astronomy, to work with Dr. Sebastian Kamann in the Stellar Clusters group at the Astrophysics Research Institute of Liverpool John Moores University.

The successful applicant will work in the UKRI-funded project "Stellar Clusters as the Nurseries of Black Holes". The aim of the project is to constrain the contribution of star clusters to the cosmic mass spectrum of black holes, using a combination of state-of-the-art observational data and advanced dynamical models. In particular, the successful applicant will be able to work on all data obtained in the MUSE stellar clusters GTO programmes. Possible project tasks include the post-processing of these data or the generation of dedicated cluster models (such as analytical, orbit- or particle-based models) as well as data-model comparisons.

You should have a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics or a closely related field by the starting date. The position is offered for up to 4 years. The nominal start date is November 1st 2020.

The Astrophysics Research Institute is committed to promoting diversity. Applications from members of traditionally under-represented groups are particularly encouraged.

All applications received by August 15, 2020 will receive full consideration. Interested candidates should apply by filling out the web application at https://jobs.ljmu.ac.uk/vacancy/postdoctoral-research-assistant-in-stellar-cluster-evolution-fixed-term-421252.html. Please attach a CV, a list of publications, and a 2-page research statement as supporting documents. The contact details of two scientists that can be contacted for reference letters should also be provided. Any queries about the application should be directed to Sebastian Kamann ([email protected]).
