DTU Space (the national Danish space institute at the Technical University of Denmark) is offering a postdoctoral position in the area of exoplanetary atmospheres. The successful applicant will join a newly established exoplanet research group lead by Prof. Lars A. Buchhave, and work on planning, analysis, modelling and interpretation of observational data of exoplanetary atmospheres. Recently, DTU has made a significant investment to place Denmark at the forefront of exoplanet atmospheric research.
Our research group focuses on understanding and characterizing exoplanets with emphasis on the abundant small planets through two key areas of research: 1) precise mass measurements of small (often transiting) planets to understand their composition and structure and 2) observation and characterization of exoplanetary atmospheres to advance our insight into their diversity and composition.
Responsibilities and tasks
The new postdoc is expected to develop cutting edge methods to characterize planetary atmospheres, combining theoretical models with observations from current and future observational facilities. The exoplanet research group at DTU Space is involved in a number of international projects, instruments and missions including TESS, PLATO, EXPRES, HARPS-N, ELT, NOT and LUVOIR. The successful applicant will have access to data from a variety of facilities including the HST PanCET program and a large TESS follow-up program on the NOT and will be expected to use the ESO facilities, HST and JWST.
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent by the start of the appointment. Applicants with previous experience in data reduction, analysis and/or modelling of spectroscopic data of planetary atmospheres are encouraged to apply. Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The postdoctoral position is held for 2 years at the Technical University of Denmark.
