The Department of Astronomy at Yale University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Data-Intensive Astronomy. We invite applications from candidates who develop and/or apply modern data science techniques and tools across sub-fields in astronomy and astrophysics. The start date for the position is July 1, 2023. Faculty members at Yale’s vibrant Astronomy Department conduct research, teach undergraduate and graduate astronomy and astrophysics courses, and supervise graduate and undergraduate research. They are eligible for Yale’s generous package of benefits, including health coverage, and are encouraged to participate in the wide range of professional development opportunities offered through the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office. Yale researchers also have access to cutting-edge research facilities from a state-of-the-art high-performance computer center through the Yale Center for Research Computing to institutional access to world-class observational facilities, including the Keck Observatory, the Palomar Observatory, the Lowell Observatory EXtreme PREcision Spectrograph (EXPRES), Simons Observatory, and the Sloan Digital Survey. We are seeking a highly qualified candidate committed to a career in research, teaching and mentoring. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree at time of hire. The complete application package should include (1) a cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) a list of publications, (4) a 3‐page statement that highlights past contributions and research accomplishments, and up to 3 additional pages describing plans for future research, (5) a 1-2 page statement on teaching and mentoring which may include descriptions of classes that the applicant would like to teach and their plans for public outreach activities, (6) a 1-2 page statement that articulates the applicant’s past activities and future plans with regard to enhancing inclusion and equity as they pertain to teaching, mentorship, research, and service, and (7) at least three letters of reference to be uploaded by the letter writers; the names and email addresses of the referees should be included in the cover letter.
