The Galaxy Formation Group lead by Prof. AV. Macciò at the New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral Associate in Fall 2017. Currently the Galaxy Formation Group counts three postdocs and 3 PhD students, the successful candidate is expected to carry out research based on theoretical and/or numerical work in the field galaxy formation and evolution in a cosmological context.
The post-doc will have direct access to a 6,600 core Infiniband Cluster (Dalma) dedicated to the science division and to other supercomputer facilities in Europe and USA. NYUAD is an institutional member of SDSS-IV and MaNGA. Applicants with familiarity with theoretical and numerical modelling of galaxy formation, and observers/modellers who interact closely with simulations are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related field. The appointment will be for an initial period of two years with a likely extension to a total of three years. The NYUAD offers a stimulating work environment, and provides funds for computing, publications, travel, etc. The galaxy formation group has close collaborations with the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg (Germany) and the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing (China).
The preferred starting date is Fall of 2017, but earlier or later dates are also possible.
