Job Description

Applications are invited for up to 2 postdoctoral appointments in Extragalactic Astrochemistry at Leiden Observatory, Leiden University.
The successful candidate(s) will work with Prof. Serena Viti on the topic of modelling extragalactic astrochemistry. The postdoctoral appointments will be for 2 or 3 years and are funded by the ERC Advanced Grant MOPPEX (ID: 833460).

The ERC project, MOPPEX, centres on the use of molecules to shed light on the physical and chemical structure of nearby  galaxies, in order to characterize  the energetic processes, as well as the dense gas structure, that determine their appearance.

Leiden Observatory is the largest astronomy department in the Netherlands, with about 35 faculty and adjunct faculty, 50 postdoctoral researchers, 50 MSc and 80 PhD students, and 30 support staff. Leiden is a charming university town with international flair.

The successful applicant(s) will be expected to  adapt and maintain our
in-house chemical and radiative transfer models and use them to interpret molecular observations of nearby galaxies. Experience in chemical modelling and/or in Data Science is a pre-requisite. One of the positions could be suitable for a Data Scientist/scientific programmer. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics, or a related field.  Applications should be submitted electronically at https://jobs.strw.leidenuniv.nl/2022/VitiPD2 by the deadline of 30 September 2022. A complete application includes a cover letter, CV, publication list, and a two-page statement of research experience and interests. In addition, applicants should arrange for three reference letters to be submitted at the same address before the indicated deadline. Questions may be directed to Professor Serena Viti ([email protected]).
