Job Description

ICRAR/Curtin University

Postdoctoral Research Fellow, 3 years

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellow at the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy, a node of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR), to work with Dr. Jean-Pierre Macquart on Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs). The CRAFT (Commensal Real-time ASKAP Fast Transients) expects to begin interferometric arcsecond localisation of every FRB it detects by Q2 2018. The successful candidate will join the CRAFT collaboration in the interferometric localisation of FRBs, analysis of their host galaxies, and interpretation of the baryonic physics of the Intergalactic Medium. The fellow will be expected to assist in the multi-messenger followup of FRB detections.

Candidates with proven expertise in radio interferometry, astronomical data analysis, statistical analysis and/or IGM physics are encouraged to apply. The researcher will work closely with with CRAFT co-PIs Dr. Ryan Shannon (Swinburne) and Dr. Keith Bannister (CSIRO).

Curtin University hosts a number of active, collaborative high time resolution and multi-wavelength experts, including Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Dr. Clancy James and A/Prof. James Miller-Jones. The position is funded through a Discovery Project grant by the Australian Research Council for a duration of three years.
