The Institute of Astronomy and Planetary Science (INCT) of the Universidad de Atacama (UDA), located in Copiapó, Chile, seeks applications for the position of Director.
The INCT at UDA currently hosts 11 staff astronomers working in several research topics which include planetary science, Galactic Astronomy, exoplanets, extragalactic astronomy, radioastronomy, interstellar medium and theoretical cosmology. The institute is also responsible of the PhD program in Astronomy and Planetary Science. The INCT has an international orientation, where English is the common language.
We are looking for a competent leader who provides both strategic vision and outstanding operational management. Additionally, the director should foster high-quality research programs in order to guide the INCT community to a suitable level of accomplishment and impact. The INCT Director will maintain and strengthen the culture of collaboration and innovation at the UDA, expand the reputation of the institute, promote diversity within the institute and demonstrate commitment to a high-quality research and student experience.
The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field (e.g., astronomy, geology, planetary sciences, etc.), and will have experience in the management of organizations or research programs, a demonstrated record of high-quality research and publications, and excellence in people management and communication skills. Involvement in international science projects, and leadership in academic and professional activities are considered a plus.
