Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) in the field of star and galaxy formation. The fellowship is funded by the European Research Council (ERC). The ERC MIST (Molecules, Magnetic fields and Intermittency in Cosmic Turbulence) project focusses on several facets of the dissipative physics of baryonic matter in the local and high-redshift universe and fosters close interactions between numericists, theorists, modelers and observers.

The proposed research project, at the core of the MIST collaboration, addresses the energy budget of galaxies and their environment, using the models of molecular emission of turbulent dissipation regions developed by the team in the perspective of forthcoming data collected by the JWST.

Candidates should have a good background in physics and astrophysics along with computational skills in python or fortran. An observational or theoretical expertise of extragalactic environments would be an invaluable asset to the project.

The team of the ERC MIST project is part of the astrophysics group at the Physics Department of ENS and has close ties with astrophysicists in the Paris area. The successful candidate will benefit from this broad and stimulating research environment.

The appointment is for two years with a possible extension to a third year. The salary includes French social security benefits and funding for travel.
