Job Description

Applications are invited for one postdoctoral position at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (NCAC PAS), in Warsaw, Poland, in the field of gravitational waves.

Successful applicant will work with Prof. Chris Belczynski and join young and dynamic group on the project "Astrophysics of gravitational waves" founded by the National Science Center (gr. MAESTRO 10, nr 2018/30/A/ST9/00050).

The contract is for 3 years. The main goal of the work is to establish the origin of LIGO/Virgo sources of gravitational waves. The evolution of massive stars and the formation of black holes and neutron stars are of particular interest. Expertise in detailed stellar and binary evolutionary calculations (e.g. MESA), or population synthesis calculations, or neutron star/black hole formation will be very useful for this position. Applicants are expected to be fluent in English, have good publication record and have good knowledge of high energy physics, in particular in context of compact objects.
