The Graduate Institute of Astronomy, National Central University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in compact stellar X-ray sources. The successful candidate will work with Professor Yi Chou on observational studies of compact stellar objects. X-ray binaries are of particular interest but the applicants have experience working on X-ray/gamma-ray isolated pulsar and cataclysmic variables are also welcome.
Our group is currently focusing on studying of the variability of X-ray binaries, including quasi-periodic oscillations, pulsations, orbital modulations and super-orbital variations. Recently, we have successfully applied Hilbert-Huang transfer to investigate the unstable periodic variations, such as super-orbital modulations of X-ray binary systems and quasi-periodic oscillations of black hole systems. In addition, we also have collaboration with astronomers from Hong Kong and Korea to study some gamma-ray pulsars, as well as use the data collected by Palomar Transient Factory and Catalina Realtime Transient Survey to study the long-term variability of cataclysmic variables.
This postdoctoral position is for two years, with possible extension for an additional year. Start date is flexible but between September-November 2016 is preferred. Applicants should send their curriculum vitae, a description of research interests and plans and a list of publications, and should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Prof. Yi Chou ([email protected]) by September 15, 2016 for full consideration. All materials should be submitted electronically.
