Assistant or Associate Professor – Space-Based Astronomy
The University of Iowa

The Department of Physics and Astronomy (http://www.physics.uiowa.edu/) at the University of Iowa seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant or associate professor to begin Fall 2017 to enhance the Department’s program in space-based astronomy. All areas of space-based astronomy will be considered. The Department has current strengths in high energy astrophysics and solar physics. We invite applications from persons experienced in space-based astronomy, specifically in the development of instrumentation and the analysis and interpretation of observations. Duties of the position will include establishment of an active research program, including the pursuit of external funding for instrumentation development and flight on rockets or spacecraft, and teaching courses at all levels. A Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a related discipline must be in hand by August 16, 2017. Post-doctoral research experience, experience in the construction of space-based instrumentation, and demonstrated ability to obtain external funding are desirable.
