The Department of Physics & Astronomy (physics.cofc.edu) at the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in astronomy to begin in fall 2017. Candidates must have a commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduates and demonstrated ability to establish and sustain a successful research program involving undergraduates. Applications are welcome from all areas of astrophysics, although preference will be given to those with an observational background who would be able to utilize the department’s soon-to-be-completed, on-campus telescope for teaching and outreach purposes. A PhD in astronomy, physics, or a closely related field is required, and post-doctoral experience is preferred.

The department consists of 19 faculty members with research interests in astronomy and astrophysics, particle physics, condensed matter physics, medical physics, atmospheric physics, and meteorology. The vibrant astronomy group, consisting of seven faculty members, has a broad range of research interests that include exoplanet, stellar, high energy, extragalactic, and computational astrophysics.
