Job Description

The Exoplanetary Science at UNSW group within the School of Physics at the University of New South Wales invites applications for an Australian Research Council-funded postdoctoral research associate in exoplanet detection using precision Doppler spectroscopy. The Research Associate will work with Prof. Chris Tinney to develop a data analysis system for use with the new Veloce precision Doppler instrument at the Anglo-Australian Telescope, and then utilise that system and Veloce to study transiting exoplanets detected by NASA’s TESS and K2 missions. The successful candidate will have experience in exoplanetary science, data processing, and a grounding in the techniques of precision Doppler spectroscopy.

  • Salary A$89,051 - A$95,248 plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
  • Position is full-time and initially for 2.5 years (i.e. 30 months), with a possibility of extension by a further 6 months depending on funding availability.

To be successful in this role you wil have:

  • A PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated potential to carry out research in exoplanetary science (relative to opportunity), as evidenced by conference presentations and publications.
  • Experience in data processing for precision Doppler spectroscopy.
  • Preferably have experience in data processing pipeline development.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a research team and to contribute to the broader intellectual environment of the School of Physics.
